Me and Outstanding Student of Gadjah Mada University

Hello, I am Nuzul Sri Hertanti student from School of Nursing, Gadjah Mada University. I am always interested in challenging activities such as organization, community service and student competitions. One of student competitions that I follow is the selection of Mahasiswa Berprestasi/Mapres (Outstanding Student). Do you know Mapres? What is that? Mahasiswa berprestasi is student who has high achievement, good in both curricular and extracurricular, able to communicate in Indonesian language and English/foreign, has positive attitude, as well as the spirit of Pancasila (DIKTI/Department of higher education, 2012). The selection of Mapres refers to individual performance of student who qualified by using some elements are academic performance (grade point average/GPA), scientific paper, curricular and extracurricular activities, ability to speak in English/Foreign language and personality. The selection carried out in stages, starting from Department; Faculty; University. That is short description of Mapres.

Why I was interested to participate in the selection of Mapres? The reason is simple, I want to point out that nursing student can compete with medical student at faculty level and I am sure that I can continue this competition to next step at university level. I was very thankful to God because at that time, I and an International medical student can continue the competition to the university level.

How the process of the selection? Actually, the elements assessed in the selection both at faculty and university level are the same. They are the GPA aspect (20%), curricular and extracurricular activities (25%), scientific paper (30%) and ability of English language (25%). The selection at faculty level attended by 30 students and only two students will follow next step of the competition at university level. There is the different way of the selection at faculty level and university level. The selection at university level use three days of the quarantine. There are 31 students who participate in the selection. That event will select six students to continue next stage of the competition. Six students of Mapres are come from different faculties. They are Gresika Bunga Sylvana student of Faculty of Economics and Business, Faelasufa from Faculty of Social and Political Science, Detiza Goldianto  Oktensi Hernowo student of Faculty of Mathematics and Sciences, two students from Faculty of Pharmacies are Rahmi Khamsita and Herwandhani Putri and the last name mentioned is Nuzul Sri Hertanti from Faculty of Medicine. The selection is more competitive with six students of Mapres. We were given the opportunity to correct the paper, English resume, adding curricular and extracurricular activities, complete the evidence of activities or certificates and other things that important to be repaired. We were asked to present our revised paper and follow psycho test to determine the psychological condition of the participants. In the end of the competition, I get fifth rank of outstanding students at university level.

What is the benefit of Mapres? There are many benefit, we can identify our potential to be better. It is important to assess our ability and evaluate our self to become better person. Externally, we are also able to add relation or relationships, know good students from all faculties so we can enhance our spirit to perform better and improve networking to face the future later. Another benefit is getting passive income that can be used to add our allowance.

What is the activity after become Mapres? The university give trust to us to handle the process of next selection and we must ready if we asked to be a speaker or other offers related to Mapres. That’s all my story that I can shared. I hope my story can enhance the spirit of achievement for all of us. The fight will be more meaningful if it starts from our selves. Let’s begin to improve your selves and arrange your strategies to achieve all your dreams.
