Prof. Yayoi Iwasaki, Chiba University, Japan visiting School of Nursing UGM.

Last week, the school of nursing, UGM received an honor guest from Chiba University, namely, Prof. Yayoi Iwasaki. Her specialization is in mental health nursing. She is also become one of the Committee member in the International Council in Chiba University. Her coming was actually for assisting the postgraduate student for data collection process, who is the junior staff in SON FM UGM, Ms. Uki Noviana, S.Kep., Ns.

The first meeting she had with the staff from SON UGM, nurses from affiliated hospitals: Sardjito and Academic hospital. During this meeting, Prof. Yayoi shared about her experience in some researches in disaster. On the other hand, many experiences were also explored from the nurses in handling the disaster in acute response management.

Through her kindness, Prof. Yayoi Iwasaki was willing to share her experience in managing the recovery phase post-disaster in Japan with the SON FM students. The guest lecture was held at Auditorium II FM UGM and attended by almost 300 students in Master degree as well as undergraduate level.

In the presentation, Prof. Yayoi Iwasaki shared the Rose Operation done together with her colleagues. As some victims may reject the helps from outsiders therefore Prof. Yayoi‘s team set up the innovative project which was brought the rose once a week with the letter in it to start the discussion. Therefore, the victims weren’t feeling obligated to talk but they could share if they wanted to. The presentation was so inspiring and many questions raised from the attendees although not all questions can be answered due to time limitation.
